DAY 11 IN ECUADOR

Howdy Y’all Amanda here to tell you all about Kicker Rock!

Today was a very adventurous day filled with awesome scenery, lots of animals, and a great snorkel spot. We began our day bright and early by going on a 1hr boat ride to a lovely beach where we looked for marine iguanas (I didn’t see any) and sea lions. We were able to relax a bit and read (Dr.M finished Darwin’s journal). After, we had a very yummy lunch on the boat (WE LOVE LENTILS) followed by a mini dance session. Then it was time for kicker rock!! During the snorkeling, we saw a white-tipped reef shark, starfish, octopus, and many turtles. Here is a picture of our awesome view.

Here is a bit about Kicker Rock: It gets its name from its boot-like shape. It is also known as “León Dormido” which translates to sleeping lion. Today we saw the shape of said lion on the side of the rock. Lastly, kicker rock is the result of a volcanic eruption that became explosive when lava and seawater mixed.

Hope you enjoyed these pictures!! Come back tomorrow for more updates on our adventures :)

  1. Seeing sharks in the wild, while I'm watching 'Shark Week' on TV in the U.S. Super incredible all that you are getting to see down there as a group. Any more marine life sightings in the more recent days?
