DAY 14 IN ECUADOR!

Hey guys Mac and Charley checking in again!

We had the most phenomenal day today! After another wonderful breakfast, we got in a van and headed up to the highlands of the island. The drive up meant we got to see all new kinds of vegetation in the cloud forest. Our first stop was for a quick hike up to see el junco which is a volcanic crater lake and one of the only freshwater sources in the islands, but unfortunately it was pretty cloudy, so we didn’t see much. After that, we got to visit the giant tortoise sanctuary! We walked along trails with giant tortoises roaming all over the place, and learned that they don’t reach those sizes till they’re 20-40 years old! Until then, they’re just tiny tortoises. They genuinely look like dinosaurs still walking the earth! This tortoise sanctuary was a breeding center so we got to see countless baby and adolescent tortoises which were just adorable. After that, we got lunch on the most beautiful farm. It overlooked the ocean, and it had all sorts of beautiful and organic plants. When we wandered around the property, we saw bananas, mandarins, Cacao, coffee beans, lemons, guava, and bamboo! The owner even cut up a cacao pod and let us try the fruit which was surprisingly sweet. He also gave us a ton of lemon and mandarins from his farm to take back to our hotel. For dinner we ate at a beautiful restaurant on the pier, and got to catch glimpses of the sunset. After countless giggles and giant fish for dinner, we called it a night and went to bed. Overall one of the best days we’ve had here on the island! Catch y’all later!

Adios!
