Day 9 in Ecuador
Hi everyone! This is Elea and Victoria! We have loved our time in San Cristobal and we never want to leave. The people, food, and wildlife make this one of the most unique and amazing places to visit. We can’t wait for the adventures we have in store!
Today was another beautiful day in San Cristobal and we were dressed in our Baylor Anthropology polos prepared for the day. As we began surveying, we had good luck having large groups of people doing surveys and enjoying the bright sun lighting up the pier. As Mackenzie and I enjoyed getting to know the locals and tourists alike, we quickly realized that both of our water bottles had been stolen from our survey spot. We ran to the edge to make sure that they hadn’t fallen into the water, however, we missed a step. We quickly watched our bright green iPad get flung over the edge of the pier and land among the dark volcanic rocks. Charley and Amanda stepped up today had their shoes off and were in the water to grab our beloved iPad. The iPad is in recovery currently, but we think that she will be ok! Our water bottles are not okay but no worries! We persevere! We tried to shake off our nerves from the day as we were going to be heading to Lobos Island within the next hour.
After some chaos in the morning, we had some much-needed fun time!
We took a boat ride to Lobos Island. On the way, we had our lunch of rice beans, and chicken! (or fish if you were me). It was so delicious! We also saw a pod of dolphins that joined us on their journey. We then stopped at the island and took a path to see all the animals. Throughout our trek, we saw the famous blue-footed boobies in their different stages of life (we saw the cutest babies). it was also cool to see some different iguanas as well. It was a battle climbing through the rocks to each side of the island. We definitely got a workout! We also saw a bunch of sea lions using their local trees as a source of shade. So many of them were sleeping under the tree. We got to see a baby as well. Then we put on our wetsuits and got ready to snorkel. We saw rainbow fish, huge sandollars and a few sealions. After we hopped on the bus to have a relaxing time on the beach. On the way, we snacked on chocolate bread, chicharones, and plantane chips. Once we hit the sand, the Kindles were pulled out as well as the underwater cameras! Some of us even made sand angels. We headed home after, and once we got back from the boat we were definitely exhausted from all the sun and fun that we headed straight to food. Have you ever had a bag of Doritos with chicken and sauce inside because you should!! After a crazy long day,
we got some rest.
So excited to survey tomorrow! See y'all later

Jealous of all the wildlife you are seeing! Praying your generation is the one to save and protect these creatures, humans, and planet. 🌎
