Elea Vander Burgh- All About Me!
Hi Everyone!!
My name is Elea Vander Burgh, and I am currently a junior at Baylor University. I study both Anthropology and
French with a minor in History. This trip has been a dream of mine since I've always aspired to study marine biology
in the Galapagos Islands. Part of the draw to this field work was influenced from spending my summers assisting
volunteers transfer sea turtle eggs into safer habitats in Mexico. I also volunteered for two years at a wildlife center
in California which allowed me to work with all types of seabirds and mammals, and I saw first hand the
anthropogenic impact on coastal wildlife. It feels surreal that my dream is coming true. I am ecstatic to be able to
snorkel so frequently, and I cannot wait to see scalloped hammerheads, bat rays, and some Galapagos tortoises.
My goals are to expand my knowledge about wildlife in relation to humans in this area, especially through the
impacts of tourism.
Sic’em!
