Day 24 in Ecuador!
Hey y’all it’s Brian!
As we continue our excursions in Isabela, today we went bike riding alongside the shore and into a trail which led us to the Wall of Tears. Throughout the bike ride, the sights of mangroves and tortoises along the way made the bike ride a one of a kind experience. At the end of the trail, the Wall of Tears can be seen which is a large wall that is now evidence of an old prison camp in the island of Isabela, as some of the worst criminals in Ecuador would be sent to Isabela and forced to do harsh labor. This labor included prisoners building a large stone wall around their prison camp that resulted in stones falling from the wall while being constructed, costing the lives of many prisoners. The Wall of Tears is now a memory of the hardships of the forced labor many prisoners endured in a moment of Ecuador’s history.
As we got our last sights of the Wall of Tears, the bike ride back was much easier with all the downhills as we soon stopped at El Estero. This place was like a hidden grove that was a mini beach with calm, soothing waters. After our morning excursions, lunch was at the hotel where we had ceviche and after a small break, we went snorkeling at Concha de Perla, where there was an abundance of fish of all shapes and sizes. Closing the night off, we had dinner at the hotel again with a choice of chicken fingers or spaghetti as our last dinner in Isabela as we would pack up and leave at 5:00 AM the next morning.
We’re coming back Santa Cruz!
