Day 3 in Ecuador!!
Hola amigos!
Today was our third day in Quito, Ecuador, and it was filled with learning, some free time, and a delicious dinner! Our morning started with our much-needed Spanish survival class. I’d say all of our Spanish is slowly but steadily improving! After Spanish, we had a lecture from Milena about wildlife welfare in Ecuador. Wildlife welfare is based on five key freedoms that are provided to animals: freedom from hunger and thirst, discomfort, pain, fear, and the freedom to express natural behaviors. While these freedoms typically apply to house pets, we discussed how they can be extended to a broader range of wildlife species. We wrapped up our learning for the day with a critical thinking session led by Dr. Guillemot. We explored a variety of topics, including truth, doubt, and artificial intelligence. Before dinner, we spent our free time doing what every college student loves most: eating, shopping, and napping. We ended the day with an amazing pizza dinner at a local pizzeria and had the opportunity to hear from a local Galapagueño about the socioeconomic conditions of the Galápagos Islands. Overall, it was another great day in Ecuador. Now we’re all headed to bed, ready to hit the ground running tomorrow.
Hasta mañana,
Ava Stagner
